#34 From the top of the volcano valley flowers Atlixco

The Huey Atlixcayotl. Flower Fields. Trout rivers. The roar of Popo. The Marconi point. Franciscan fortresses. Dead altars.

Experience

1 Atlixco, 33 km from Puebla, is a quiet town at the base of Popo surrounded by flowers. We recommend parking downtown and walking. At the base you will find the Church of the Nativity, with its beautiful domes. Behind the Ex-convento del Carmen houses the Museum of Cultures Atlixco Valley. Then go to the hill San Miguel, where the famous festival is celebrated Huey Atlixcayotl. v Chapel of the Third Order before reaching the former  Franciscan convent (s. XVI), the oldest building in Atlixco. Before you leave, be sure to buy flowers and plants in Cologne Cabrera. If you're hungry, try the famous delicious Cecina(jerky) or snows.

2 Let's now to the Popo. Head to Metepec and continues along the mountain road above the Popo -so close and there are days that even you can hear- to San Baltazar Atlimeyaya, a small village famous for its trout farms

and family restaurants, very popular on Sundays.

3 We propose you now explore two of the Franciscans, imposing ex-convent as fortresses, which are as interesting as hardly known. In the small town of Tochimilco will surprise the Former Franciscan convent of the Assumption of Our Lady (s.XVI). You can enter the temple and the court, presided over by a Moorish fountain.

4 The next stop is the former convent of San Martín of Tours (s. XVI) in Huaquechula, with its exquisite decoration on the cover, exterior hood and side door. A stone carved with symbols prehispanic walk wall reminds us who built this veritable fortress. Admira altarpieces and visit the Museum site with ancient codices and a section dedicated to the feast of the dead, great local tradition.
